02 //Why this course
Why this course.
S4/SAP ABAP is proposed as a 75-day, practical enterprise-development program centered on ABAP programming for SAP S/4HANA, progressing from core ABAP and object-oriented development into database access, CDS, modern ABAP development with ADT, OData services, the ABAP RESTful Application Programming Model (RAP), Fiori-oriented service exposure, testing, extensibility and Clean Core principles.
SAP's current learning material positions modern ABAP around ABAP Development Tools (ADT), ABAP Cloud, Core Data Services (CDS), RAP, public APIs and lifecycle-stable extensibility. SAP also describes RAP as a framework for building business objects and OData services, with service definitions/bindings and behavior implementations forming key development artifacts.
The proposed course therefore avoids treating ABAP as only classic report programming. It teaches the learner to understand both established ABAP development patterns and the modern S/4HANA extension model, while clearly distinguishing legacy/classic techniques from cloud-ready and Clean Core-oriented development.
